Linux 4.11 kernel gets first release candidate

Linux creator Linus Torvalds has announced the first release candidate of the upcoming Linux 4.11 kernel. The new release includes a few changes in Linux 4.10 final build.

Two weeks after opening the merge window, Torvalds has brought the first release candidate of Linux 4.11. The build comes in a small file size that includes some minor changes to the core kernel.

“This looks like a fairly regular release. It is on the smallish side, but mainly just compared to 4.9 and 4.10 – so it is not really _unsually_ small,” writes Torvalds in a mailing list announcement.

The Linux 4.11-rc1 release also marks the end of the feature merge window for this kernel cycle.

There are updates to vfs, RTC and NFC client. The Linux team has also upgraded some drivers and fixed issues with ARM chips and networking modules.
